Entre sa femme qui engage une procédure de divorce, les dettes qui s'accumulent et un emploi menacé, Aldo Bonnard voit sa vie se déliter, jusqu'au jour où il gagne une fortune au loto. Alors qu'il est sur le point d'annoncer la nouvelle à son épouse, il découvre qu'elle le trompe avec son nouveau patron. Deux solutions se présentent alors à lui: soit partager ses gains faramineux avec elle…et son rival, soit dissimuler sa fortune et feindre avoir gagné après le divorce. Il choisit cette dernière option, mais vit parallèlement et clandestinement comme un homme richissime.

Caught between his wife’s divorce proceedings, mounting debts, and a job threatened by the arrival of a new boss, Aldo Bonnard’s life is rapidly falling apart. Then he suddenly wins a fortune with a lottery ticket. As Aldo heads to break the good news to his wife Alice, he sees her in the arms of his boss. From then on he faces a dilemma: in a princely gesture, split his huge gains - as he should do legally – with his wife, and hence with her new lover, or conceal his good fortune and pretend to win after the divorce. He chosses the latter, to continue to live like a « poor man », and not to « move an inch ».
