Le temps d'un été dans un village de la vallée de l'Yonne, Fanny, une petite fille, partage l'histoire de deux frères, Vincent et Serge, tous deux marqués par la disparition brutale de leur père. Si faire vivre la scierie familiale est devenu un point d'honneur pour Serge, Vincent prend de la distance et fait la connaissance d'une jeune femme aux allures de "Calamity Jane", Carole Barthoulot. Sous le regard de Fanny, Vincent tombe amoureux de Carole et abandonne progressivement tout ce qui pouvait encore le retenir au village. Voyant qu'il va lui échapper, Serge tente de garder son frère près de lui...

For one summer, in a village in the Yonne valley, a little girl called Fanny shares the story of two brothers, Vincent and Serge, both of whom have been marked for life by the sudden death of their father. Keeping the family sawmill going has become a matter of honor for Serge, while Vincent distances himself and becomes involved with Carole Barthoulot, a young woman in the Calamity Jane mold. Fanny looks on as Vincent falls in love with Carole and gradually cuts all ties with the village. Sensing that he will lose his brother, Serge tries to hold him back…
